We are actively starting and taking part in different projects in order to support sugar reduction activities around the globe.
Below is an outline of projects that we are involved in right now:
Cloud platform – Take action to stop the sugar epidemic
SugarReduced is developing an innovative, cloud-based platform for the development of reduced and no added sugar products. SugarReduced intelligently identifies how food and beverage manufacturers’ recipes should be adjusted for them to produce reduced sugar products, at a lower cost, faster and with less risk.
SugarReduced will allow manufacturers to enter data for their specific product and then calculate what sugar alternatives would be appropriate (what combinations and in what quantities), to maintain taste, texture and stability and to meet all national and international food legislation.
Manufacturers are then able to see the nutritional information for the reduced sugar product while also being given a visual representation of the product’s aroma, texture, and taste.
The uniqueness of SugarReduced lies in the integration of two disruptive technologies for sugar reduction (e-calculator and e-sensory) which helps SMEs to a) optimise profit margins in light of the new sugar taxation policies, b) minimise costs, risk and time in R&D and c) stay close to consumer market trends.
CSR – Take action to stop the sugar epidemic
We believe that sugar reduction should be a top priority for companies and organizations across the globe. Globally, just sugar sweetened beverages are estimated to contribute to about 184 000 deaths each year, according to a Lancet paper published early 2016. Sugar is ‘the most dangerous drug of our time’, claimed Paul van der Velpen, head of Amsterdam’s health service, already back in 2013, calling for health warnings on sugary foods and beverages, the same way we see on tobacco products.
The public health is of concern to all. That’s why we are suggesting that sugar reduction becomes a CSR issue, not just for the food and beverage industries, but for all.
Let’s find recipes and solutions to reduce sugars in food and make sure that healthier, yet tasty options, become available on the shelves of super markets across the globe.
