On October 29, an innovation center for sugar reduction will open in Gävle, Sweden. Bayn Studio will focus on three core pillars; a café servering “Swedish fika” with less sugar, a shop that sells ready-made sweets, foods and beverages without added sugar, as well as Bayn Studio’s DIY (Do-It-Yourself) courses – where people get to experience and learn more about food with no added sugar.
Behind the initiative is leading specialist company within sugar reduction, Bayn Europe. The studio allows for Bayn to get direct feedback from consumers on new product development and will serve as a platform for other companies who produce sugar-reduced food to sell their products. Bayn Studio opens in cooperation with one of Gävle’s oldest confectioners, Konditori Lido, which will manage the production of the sugar reduced “fika” and café to the public.
Bayn Studio is granted a special investment of 839,700 SEK by Region Gävleborg. Region Gävleborg is responsible for the regional development in Gävleborg and also state funds for regional development and business support.
“We want the public to learn more about healthy sugar reduction and about food without added sugar. Businesses, consumers and students are invited to Bayn Studio to trial the making of chocolate, ice cream and sweets with no added sugar. We will also invite food manufacturers to participate in workshops and seminars on sugar reduction to inspire them to launch more sugar-reduced products – something we see as an important part of food companies’ CSR work today, “says Lucy Dahlgren, CEO of Bayn Europe AB .
