The campaign group Action on Sugar calls for food producers to reduce sugar in products to kids. They want Britain to become a world leader in sugar reduction to manage obesity crisis which the country is facing and that will pressure health services.
The UK government has set a goal of reducing sugar by 20 % by 2020 and many manufacturers are already taking action to lower sugar content in products such as ice-cream, cereal and biscuits.
The campaign group means that reducing sugar and sweetness in products is the most crucial strategy to prevent obesity, though reducing portion sizes and shift purchasing patterns to healthier options also are important aspects.
